Bocklip takes its cabinet fronts international with Sylius

Founded in France in 2015, Bocklip is a pioneer in custom, high-end fronts for IKEA and Leroy Merlin furniture, helping homeowners reinvent their interiors. And it is a booming market! Bocklip has four showrooms in France and an e-commerce site built on the Sylius platform. In 2024, the company wanted to evolve its site to support its international growth, so it turned to Synolia for a technical audit, a platform upgrade, and the rollout to new countries.

Bocklip sets out to win over Europe’s kitchens

Bocklip, a maker of custom, high-end cabinet fronts, invites its customers to reinvent their IKEA and Leroy Merlin furniture. The goal: create a one-of-a-kind interior. After 10 years in business, 4 showrooms, and an e-commerce site, Bocklip needed to accelerate its online and international business. The company was looking for a partner that could bring technical and strategic expertise to meet its growth challenges.

Bocklip reached out to Sylius and was put in touch with the vendor’s leading partner in France: Synolia!

The Bocklip brief

Technical and strategic expertise to support the international rollout of the Sylius platform.

Synolia x Sylius

The Synolia team audited the Sylius platform, identifying the technical prerequisites for taking over the platform, along with recommendations and best practices for opening new countries.

Our scope: technical audit with a findings review and technical recommendations, implementation of the recommendations, and launch of the internationalization project (Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany).

“Bocklip and Synolia have a great working relationship. We held regular check-ins to review project progress. The client was very responsive and always available to answer our questions about how their site worked and the expected functional scope.”
Chloé Labrucherie, Project Manager, Synolia

A closer look at our technical recommendations

  • Upgrade Symfony to version 6.4, along with the related plugins, to ensure system security and performance.
  • Clean up the code by removing obsolete code and optimizing the project structure for better readability and maintainability.
  • Reassess the hosting and move to a solution better suited to the application’s current and future needs.
  • Set up deployment scripts (CI/CD) to automate deployment and testing, making updates more efficient and secure.

Why stay on Sylius?

Flexibility and a tailor-made journey

The buying journey on Bocklip is quite unique, which explains the choice of Sylius, a flexible solution suited to specialized e-commerce businesses.

The brand puts personalized guidance first, working with customers to define their needs and suggest the materials that best match what they want. That is why the invitation to “Book an appointment” appears throughout the buying journey.

Thanks to the flexibility of Sylius, we were able to rethink the customer journey and integrate the instant quote, which uses the IKEA kitchen planner and is a key feature of the Bocklip experience.

A journey redesigned in 3 clear steps

To make the journey faster and more intuitive, we redesigned product selection. Customers are now guided through three dynamic steps that update based on their previous choices and the products in their project:

  • Choosing the style (modern, classic, etc.)
  • Choosing the finish (lacquer, smooth wood, etc.)
  • Choosing the color

The instant quote evolves: from PDF to URL

To support this simplified journey, we completely redesigned the quoting process. Originally, getting a quote on the Bocklip site required customers to download and manually upload the PDF of their IKEA kitchen planner project.

To simplify this step, and above all to guard against any changes in the PDF structure, we upgraded the system: customers now simply enter the URL of their IKEA kitchen planner project.

With this upgrade, the system uses the URL to automatically and accurately identify every product in the IKEA project and match it to Bocklip’s database of fronts.

A transparent quote with a full budget projection

The biggest change to the Bocklip site is on the final results page. The resulting quote is fully transparent and shows:

  • A breakdown by cabinet, with the price and quantity for each IKEA cabinet component.
  • The ability to change options (style, finish, color) without resubmitting the project URL.
  • An overall budget projection: the system displays the estimated total to spend at IKEA (for the cabinets) and the total to spend at Bocklip. Customers get a clear, immediate view of the full cost of their future kitchen.

The instant quote, available without logging in, is the perfect example of how the flexibility of Sylius turned complex technical constraints (connecting to external data and matching products) into a differentiating customer experience.

Results

Our support gave the Bocklip teams a clean foundation and helped them scale up their Sylius platform. The new country launches went off without a hitch.

The highlight of this collaboration is the evolution of the instant quote. By letting customers submit a simple URL, we turned a complex technical constraint into a new customer experience, one that shows every customization option for their kitchen along with a complete budget projection. Sylius once again proves its robustness when facing highly specific business challenges.

Today, our collaboration with Bocklip continues on other projects that will further support its growth: a UX redesign of the catalog, new country launches, a marketing automation rollout… We can’t wait to tell you more!
